I need a day off work?

I have my orientation for my first job tomorrow and something came up so a week after my orientation i wont be able to work. its only one day that i need off and i havent gotten a schedule or anything yet but im worried that i will be scheduled on the day i need off. i havent even started yet and i told my boss that i am availible anytime, what do i do?
