Need advice for getting a job!!?

I haven't worked in over 6 years due to a major medical setback. I have worked in legal offices before but was never fired but was let go and my ex bosses probably wouldn't hire me again. I am looking for a part time job because I am in school part-time and can't find anything. Everywhere I look requires experience. I need some ideas on what to do and should I even use my prior resume since my work history is over 6 years ago? I would be willing to volunteer, but will that get me job? I don't know what other resources to go to. Thanks in advance.
