Why do people in their 50's get annoyed by the music they listened to back in the day?

I was in high school from 1959-1962 and even though I enjoy MOST of the music from that sock hop soda shop era of music there's some music from that period (EX: Gary U.S. Bonds, Little Peggy March, The Shangri-Las) that, even back then and to this day, makes me cringe. Perhaps your uncle, even as a teenager, never never NEVER liked Foreigner...just the sound of the lead vocalist's voice makes him grit his teeth?
